OpenAI CEO hopeful about global AI coordination

Global AI cooperation excites OpenAI CEO. After touring key cities, OpenAI’s CEO called global AI cooperation “quite optimistic” on Monday.

Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O) has financed the startup’s public face on a frantic tour to capitalize on generative AI enthusiasm and influence legislation.

“I came to the trip… sceptical that it was going to be possible in the short term to get global cooperation to reduce existential risk, but I am now wrapping up the trip feeling quite optimistic we can get it done,”

Sam Altman told Tokyo, students. Generative AI, which creates text and graphics, is sparking excitement and worry about its potential to alter numerous industries. Regulators are changing and creating norms.

The EU’s draft AI Act may become law this year while the US is exploring amending AI restrictions. Altman discussed opening a Japanese office with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in April.

“All of the conversations have progressed quite well,” Altman said Monday. Japan lags in consumer-friendly AI services despite manufacturing titans investing in automation.

“There’s a long history of humans and machines working together here,” Altman said.
