Suzuki Motor Corp (7269.T) announced Tuesday that it would build “flying cars” with SkyDrive Inc.

Suzuki stated that the businesses would use a Suzuki Group factory in central Japan to build electric vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft by spring 2019.

The automaker said Suzuki would assist SkyDrive in setting up a wholly-owned subsidiary to produce the aircraft and recruit people.

SkyDrive, based in Toyota, central Japan, is owned by Itochu Corp (8001.T), NEC Corp (6701.T), and a unit of energy giant Eneos Holdings Inc (5020.T).

Last March, the corporations agreed to collaborate on flying car research, development, and marketing.
