Uber Technologies (UBER.N) cut 200 workers in its recruitment section on Wednesday to save costs.

After 150 freight services layoffs earlier this year, Uber cut less than 1% of its 32,700 global employees.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Uber cut 35% of its recruiting staff.

Uber reduced 17% of its workforce in mid-2020 because of the pandemic, but Lyft (LYFT.O) eliminated more.

Lyft fired 26% of its employees in April and 700 late last year to compete with Uber under new CEO David Risher.

In May, Uber said it was on track to reach operational income profitability this year and would maintain its employees after headcount decreased sequentially in the March quarter.
