Western Digital claims “network security” hackers took data.

This week’s “network security incident” at Western Digital saw hackers steal data.

The California-based corporation announced on Monday that an unauthorized third party accessed “a number” of its internal systems on March 26. Western Digital has not acknowledged the event or how it was attacked, but its statement indicates ransomware was involved.

Western Digital said it thinks the unauthorized party accessed data from its systems and is investigating the type and breadth of that material.

The attacker is unknown. No ransomware gang has claimed the attack.

Western Digital said the attack “has caused and may continue to cause interruption” to its operations. The corporation didn’t elaborate. However, However, Western Digital’s service status page indicates that the event disabled its My Cloud network-attached storage (NAS) service, which lets clients access their data online.

Western Digital is “implementing aggressive actions to safeguard its business operations” and restoring infrastructure and services. In addition, the business said it is investigating alongside an unnamed cybersecurity firm and law authorities.
