Welcome to our comprehensive review of the WiZ Indoor Camera, a revolutionary home security device that has taken the smart lighting company, WiZ, into the realm of home monitoring and security. In this in-depth analysis, we will explore the key features, design, performance, and overall user experience of this plucky first home security device from WiZ. As of July 20, 2023, we aim to provide you with the most up-to-date information about the WiZ Indoor Camera. So, let’s delve into the world of WiZ Home Monitoring and discover why this camera is a game-changer for home security.

A Brave New Frontier for WiZ

WiZ is widely recognized for its affordable and innovative smart lighting alternatives, and now it ventures into the domain of home security with the WiZ Indoor Camera. This first foray into home monitoring has yielded a surprisingly capable device, offering peace of mind for homeowners even when they are away. The camera’s seamless integration with WiZ’s smart lighting line makes it a convenient addition to any WiZ fan’s home.

Plucky Design and Impressive Features

The WiZ Indoor Camera might not win awards for its aesthetics, but it certainly impresses with its rich feature set. While it may feel slightly basic and plasticky, the camera shines with the vast array of features it offers. Out of the gate, it provides a variety of customizable settings that can be easily accessed through the WiZ v2 app. The camera’s onboard features work smoothly and reliably, thanks to WiZ’s proprietary SpaceSense technology. One standout feature is the availability of local storage using a microSD card, providing an extra layer of security. Unlike some competitors, WiZ does not lock essential features behind a subscription paywall. The camera’s SpaceSense technology uses Wi-Fi signals to detect motion in a room, allowing users to receive instant alerts via the app when motion is detected. Additionally, WiZ Indoor Camera users can enjoy presence simulation, automatically turning lights on and off to give the impression of someone being at home.

Camera Performance and Limitations

The WiZ Indoor Camera’s hardware specifications might leave enthusiasts wanting more, with a fairly standard 1080p resolution and a 120-degree field of view. While the camera’s performance is satisfactory for its price range, some may prefer devices with higher resolutions and wider viewing angles. For instance, a 2K resolution or an expanded field of view would be desirable for a slightly higher cost. However, the WiZ Indoor Camera makes up for its hardware limitations with its software features, especially its integration with the WiZ smart lighting line. The camera’s ability to distinguish between people and pets, as well as its sound detection capabilities, make it a valuable asset in any home security setup.

Pricing and Availability

The WiZ Indoor Camera is competitively priced at $69.99 in the US and £79.99 in the UK. It is available directly from WiZ’s website or through Amazon. The camera is also offered as part of the WiZ Home Monitoring Starter Kit, which includes three WiZ A19 full-color smart bulbs and one camera and is priced at 159.99 euros. WiZ also provides the option to purchase the camera individually for $69.99 (89.99 euros). Please note that this pricing information is accurate as of July 20, 2023, and may be subject to change.

Conclusion: A Compelling Choice for Home Security

In conclusion, the WiZ Indoor Camera is a remarkable addition to WiZ’s product lineup, boldly entering the home security camera market with an impressive array of features and smart integrations. Its affordability, local storage option, and freedom from subscription paywalls make it an attractive choice for budget-conscious homeowners seeking peace of mind. While there is room for improvement in terms of hardware, WiZ has made a strong first impression with the WiZ Indoor Camera, setting the stage for further advancements in home monitoring and security.
