Amazon Web Services to open development centre in Kenya

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud-computing part of the corporation, said on Wednesday that it would construct a development center in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. The center would create employment in cloud support, software engineering, and software development.

Kenya is one of Africa’s largest technological centers, sometimes referred to as the “Silicon Savannah.” In addition to successful startups, Kenya is home to offices of some of the world’s most well-known technology companies.

“This centre will enable the local market to tap into an incredible pool of technical talent,” said Uwem Ukpong, vice president of global services at Amazon Web Services (AWS).

AWS is the world’s biggest cloud computing provider, and businesses, including Netflix (NFLX.O), General Electric (GE.N), and Sony (6758.T), utilize it to enable storage, networking, and remote security. AWS is the world’s largest cloud computing company.

“The Kenyan technology sector continues to be a source of growth and job creation in a time when there is so much uncertainty in the world,” said Kenya’s President William Ruto. “[T]he Kenyan technology sector continues to be a source of growth and job creation.”
