Today, eBay announced the appointment of Vidmay Naini as general manager for global developing markets, a position responsible for overseeing the firm’s expansion throughout Southeast Asia, India, Eastern Europe, Israel, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Naini formerly oversaw eBay’s operations in Southeast Asia and India.

Naini has worked on several initiatives throughout his 18 years at eBay, including the company’s significant investment in Flipkart.

According to a statement by Naini, “The digital economy is developing tremendously in these regions, with small and medium-sized firms pushing its expansion. In addition, export possibilities may be revolutionized and expanded via global e-commerce platforms like eBay.

eBay noted its 2022 Southeast Asia Small Online Business Trade Report in its announcement of Naini’s appointment, noting that 99% of all small firms on eBay presently export things to an average of 25 worldwide markets each year.

Sixty-eight percent of “eBay-enabled small businesses” in six Southeast Asian nations (Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Singapore) ship to ten or more countries abroad.

In an interview with Tech Wire Asia published in July, Naini stated that eBay’s business in Southeast Asia was only getting started and expected the market to experience rapid expansion.

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in this area have contributed much to our company’s expansion. However, since eBay is still in its infancy in this market, we believe its potential for explosive growth is only the tip of the iceberg.
