ESL One New York is set to be the First VR eSports Event

The first eSports event to be livestreamed in virtual reality will in fact be ESL One New York.

The stream will take advantage of Sliver.tv’s virtual 360-degree recording technology to give fans the illusion that they are really in the game. Inside the venue, something that Sliver.tv calls an “arena experience” will be offered by WonderWorld VR.

In the above trailer, we can see that players will be able to see the match from a 360 bird’s eye point of view as well as first person view through a floating in-game screen. The stream will be viewable through a browser, mobile device, or a VR headset.

For fans and viewer who do not yet own or have access to a VR headset, a Panorama-360 experience will be available on iOS and Android smartphones, Google Cardboard, and the Sliver.tv website.

“This new method of broadcasting gives viewers a taste of what it’s like to be in the arena at an eSports mega event, and a brand new perspective on top level CS:GO through in-game virtual cameras,” said ESL product manager, Stuart Ewen.

“eSports helped pioneer online video streaming, and we couldn’t be more proud to take the next step into the future of broadcast media with this initiative.”

ESL One New York will begin on October 1st at the Barclays Center and will last for an entire 2 days. Look for more news as this event comes closer.
