EU considers mandatory Huawei ban for 5G.

The Financial Times reported that the EU may restrict member states from adopting Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. in their 5G networks.

The officials told the newspaper that Brussels is concerned about certain national governments postponing action. EU and Huawei did not immediately answer Reuter’s inquiries.

In 2020, the EU indicated member states might restrict or exclude high-risk 5G providers like Huawei from core telecoms networks, resisting Washington’s call for a ban on Chinese telcos.

According to the article, EU internal market commissioner Thierry Breton told telecoms ministers last Friday that barely a third of EU countries had banned Huawei in key areas.

The publication noted that if member nations like Germany hesitate, the EU might mandate a ban on security-risk corporations.

In March, a government source told Reuters that Germany was considering banning Huawei and ZTE (000063. SZ) telecoms network components to address security concerns.
