Google fires Waze staff.

As it integrates Waze’s advertising system with Google Ads, alphabet-owned Google (GOOGL.O) laid off staff on Tuesday.

“We’ve reduced those roles focused on Waze Ads monetization,” said Google, which bought Waze for $1.3 billion in 2013.

In December, Google added Waze to its Google Geo division, which includes Google Maps, Google Earth, and Street View.

Geo division head Chris Phillips emailed CNBC earlier. Google will contact advertisers and partners Wednesday.
