On Friday, Britain’s competition authority said Meta (META.O) had promised to limit its use of other companies’ advertising data for its Facebook Marketplace service to address competition concerns.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said it would accept the undertakings, which include letting advertisers opt out of using their data to improve Facebook Marketplace classified advertisements.

“Reducing the risk of Meta unfairly exploiting the data of businesses who advertise on its platform for its own competitive advantage could help many UK businesses who advertise there,” said CMA executive director of enforcement Michael Grenfell.

“We are now consulting on these commitments which we believe, at this stage, will address our concerns.”

According to the CMA, meta might utilize data from Facebook advertisements to determine a user’s interest in trainers and impact shoe listings on Facebook Marketplace.
Meta’s plan consultation ends June 26.
