Poland investigates OpenAI over privacy concerns

It said a Polish agency is probing Microsoft-backed (MSFT.O) OpenAI over a complaint that its ChatGPT chatbot violates GDPR.

OpenAI faces at least its second class action lawsuit in San Francisco federal court for privacy violations. After the lawsuit was reported earlier this month, it did not comment.

Poland’s Personal Data Protection Office President Jan Nowak said, “The case involves the violation of many personal data protection provisions, so we will ask Open AI to answer a number of questions.”

According to UODO, the unnamed complaint alleged that OpenAI did not correct ChatGPT-generated inaccurate information about them.

The complainant said they received evasive and misleading answers to questions about which personal data the company processed.

OpenAI did not respond to an email request for comment.

Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, and Stability AI have been sued for “scraping” copyrighted publications and personal data from the internet to train their generative AI systems.

Two months after its inception, OpenAI’s ChatGPT reached 100 million active users in January, making it the fastest-growing consumer app ever. Microsoft has invested billions in the company.
