Reels for editing and discovery are coming to Instagram.

Today, Instagram revealed many new features for Reels, its TikTok competitor, including a new video editor and trending content search.

Video editing changed the most. Users may now edit uploaded videos, music, stickers, and text overlays on one screen instead of many screens.

In addition, the company’s stills reveal a timeline editing option like TikTok’s, which aligns audio and video segments and smooths transitions.

Instagrammers may now locate trending videos. Trends and challenges that are easy to duplicate make TikTok an incubator for viral material, but until today, there was no quick way to discover what was trending on Reels. A new Reels feature lists hot hashtags and tracks on Instagram and how many videos incorporate them. Users can download or apply the audio to their videos.

Creators may now assess content performance and interact with followers. For example, the analytics dashboard will now show viewers’ entire viewing of a Reel, including replays, and the average watch time and alert creators when a new follower discovers them through a Reel.

Instagram and TikTok have been revising or reducing budgets to compensate high-performing video producers, making it difficult to satisfy them. TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram all provide virtual tips from fans to monetize content. A forthcoming Reels giving update will show creators whose fans have sent them presents and allow them to press a heart icon to thank them.
