This revolutionary feature, “Lipa na Data,” which translates to “Pay with Data,” caters to prepaid and postpaid subscribers, providing them with a convenient and efficient transaction method using their accumulated data resources. With the introduction of this service, Safaricom aims to expand its customer base further and solidify its position as a leader in the East African market.

 

How “Lipa na Data” Works

“Lipa”na Data” emp” were Safaricom subscribers to purchase at various establishments by leveraging their internet data balance. Users must dial the shortcode *544*34# to access this service to obtain the available menu options. For eligibility, prepaid subscribers must possess a minimum of 5GB of data, while postpaid subscribers can take advantage of this feature without specific data threshold requirements. The service menu provides four options: Buy Goods, Pay Bill, Bundle Calculator, and View Bundle Balance.

 

Buying Goods and Paying Bills

Under the Buy Goods option, subscribers can initiate transactions at participating shops using Paybill or till numbers. This seamless payment process simplifies the customer experience, offering a convenient alternative to traditional cash or digital payment methods. Moreover, the Pay Bill option allows users to settle various bills using their accumulated data balance, such as utilities or services.

 

Bundle Calculator and Bundle Balance

The Bundle Calculator tool is integral to the “Lipa”na Data” ser” ice. It gives users a clear breakdown of the cost of goods or services in Kenyan Shillings and its equivalent data bundle value. This functionality ensures transparency and enables customers to make informed decisions before finalizing their payments. The View Bundle Balance feature also enables users to check their data balance to ensure they have sufficient resources for the intended transaction.

Rivals Airtel Money and T-Kash trail behind with shares of 3.4% and 0.1%, respectively.
