Samsung has launched the Samsung 980 Pro, which has a high performance and an affordable price range.

As with other SSDs, this SSD is available in three storage capacities: 250GB for $89, 500GB for $149, and 1TB for $229. These prices are a bit high because the SSD prices have fallen in the last few months.

Samsung waited this long to introduce a Gen4 SSD to premiere it along with the latest technologies, Elpis controller and V-NAND technology, which means nothing is holding this drive back.

This SSD is quite fast with a speed of 6,783MB/s, which is a 35% boost in speed. However, to really appreciate the speed, you should know that the Samsung 980 Pro is 90% faster than the Samsung 970 Pro. Moreover, it is 12 times faster than the Samsung 860 Pro. It is also way faster than the SSD present in Samsung S20 Lite. You can check out the phone here.

It’s no wonder that SSDs like the Samsung 980 Pro is what’s being used in the next-generation consoles. The Gen4 SSDs are a bit expensive right now, however, their speed is worth it if you need that level of bandwidth for your work needs. It is even faster than the best SSDs in the market.

One thing that we need to be aware of this SSD is system compatibility. The SSD is backward compatible with PCIe 3.0, which is great. However, the speed when you connect it to a PCIe 3.0 platform drops down to 3500 MB/s. So, if you don’t have a PCIe 4.0 compatible system, you should better go with a cheaper PCIe 3.0 SSD with the same speed.

The drive should be able to last for a long time too. Not only has it a 5-year back guarantee, but the TBW rating is 300TB for the 500GB Samsung 980 Pro. Thus, the rating scale goes up to 1,200 TB for the 2TB model.

Although the Samsung 980 Pro has a good price range, it isn’t the cheapest SSD in the market right now. So, if you are looking for a lower price, you should better go with a PCIe 3.0 SSD.
