Some Nintendo Switch 2 Games Will Be More Expensive

Nintendo has revealed that some of its upcoming titles for the Switch 2 will come with a higher price tag than the standard $59.99 price point that many Switch games typically follow. Two of the most highly anticipated games, Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, will cost significantly more than the usual rate.

Mario Kart World, set for a June 5th launch, will retail for $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza, which will release shortly afterward, will cost $69.99. This marks a departure from the traditional pricing for Switch games, which often hover around the $59.99 mark.

However, these price hikes are not entirely without precedent. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom also launched at a higher price of $69.99, a decision that Nintendo explained was based on the specific circumstances surrounding each game. In this case, the company determines the retail price on a case-by-case basis, depending on factors like production and content.

For those eager to get their hands on Mario Kart World, Nintendo is offering a special $499.99 Switch 2 bundle that includes the game, which may help alleviate the sting of the higher price. On its own, the Switch 2 will retail for $449.99.

It seems that the next-generation console might see more games priced above the typical $59.99 mark, reflecting an overall trend of increasing costs for high-quality titles in the gaming industry.
