Twitter’s blue check marks, a remnant of the pre-Elon Musk period, look to be gone.

The free blue checks Twitter gave journalists, celebrities, and other public officials to reduce impersonations and spam were intended to stop April 1.

Musk announced the new expiration date on Twitter on April 11, days after the legacy check marks should have disappeared. Since a middle schooler owns Twitter, that’s cannabis day.

Twitter will only verify corporations, government bodies, and paying users without legacy checks. “For example, This account is verified because they are subscribed to Twitter Blue and verified their phone number” appears when a user clicks a blue check mark.

TechCrunch writers saw a “flickering” blue checkmark on their accounts Thursday. Some have lost their blue checkmarks.

Twitter has kept its pledge to remove legacy check marks from even the highest-profile personalities under Musk. 4/20 unchecked Pope Francis too.
