Sometimes paying for a video game just isn’t worth it, especially with the large amount of free-to-play video games that exist today, even though some of the games do have in game purchases, they aren’t always required to fully enjoy the game. If gamers could see the exact amount of sales a video game or console gets from the time when it is first released to the current moment in time, it would show just how successful these video games are. Sadly the sales of consoles and video games are rarely made public in the U.S. and Europe unless they reach a high number of sold units. Even Valve keeps their PC numbers a secret from the public.
However, recently analyst company SuperData revealed the free-to-play online video game League Of Legends is the most popular in the world when measured by revenue. Most console owners have never heard of the game due to it being only available on PC, but the online game has managed to stay popular worldwide ever since its release on October 27th 2009.
Online games such as League Of Legends, Dungeon Fighter Online, Crossfire, Fantasy Westward Journey Online II, actually owe most of their popularity to the Chinese gaming market, despite the fact that most of the titles originate from Korea. The reason for this is because gaming consoles actually aren’t as prevalent as they are in U.S. and Europe, technically consoles were illegal in China due to the video game ban in 2000, (ironically since China is known as the “Games Industry Capital of the World”) the ban didn’t apply to PC games and luckily it was lifted in July 2015.

Overall the game with the most sales between the three platforms has been confirmed by SuperData to be League Of Legends, the only game appearing on both lists being Overwatch, and Ghost Recon: Wildlands being the only game recently released this year that made the top 10.
