Today, GM revealed an all-electric Escalade for later this year. The Cadillac fleet—Lyriq, Celestiq, Mystiq, Vistiq, and Lumistiq—follows the Escalade IQ name. The final IQ? Cadillac claims, “The IQ naming strategy celebrates Cadillac introducing a different type of EV to the market—one that works in tandem with people’s daily lives and environments.” All right.

The car’s features, electric range, and price were not revealed. However, details may be provided later this year. Let’s guess!

The next-generation Ultium platform, utilized in every recent GM EV from the stylish Blazer EV to the enormous Hummer EV, will likely underpin the Escalade IQ. Rory Harvey, General Motors’ new North American president, announced the Silverado EV’s 450-mile electric range last week. Escalade IQ may have a similar range.

General Motors and Cadillac have recently proved they can price their autos high. The Celestiq, Cadillac’s premier EV vehicle, will start at $300,000 and presumably be more exclusive than the Escalade IQ. If available, the GMC Hummer EV costs over $150,000. The mid-engine Corvette C8, which begins at $65,000, often sells for over $150,000.

Can’t afford the Escalade IQ? The Chevy Suburban may be cheaper.

By design, Cadillac Escalade and Chevrolet Suburban are nearly equal in size and capability. Since the late 1990s, Cadillac has led with the Escalade. General Motors saw a chance to create money when gas was cheap, and people wanted big SUVs. So the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban were modified with improved seats, softer leather, and the Cadillac crest on the tailgate. It sold well since its release.

With the Ultium platform, General Motors may build a luxury full-size SUV, the Escalade IQ, and a pedestrian Chevy Suburban.
