Samsung’s mobile business abandoned large show debuts a long time ago. Gone, it appears, are the days when the business saved its first significant phone announcement of the year for the weeks leading up to the Mobile World Congress.
The latest Unpacked event is scheduled for January 17—a week and a half after CES concludes. If history repeats itself (which it nearly always does), we’ll get our first official glimpse at Samsung’s upcoming mobile flagship, the Galaxy S24.
Last year’s event, held in early February, saw the introduction of three different variants of the S23, as well as a handful of Galaxy Book notebooks. Because this is Samsung, the smartphone leaks have happened for a while.
The S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra renderings don’t deviate too much from their predecessors. These handsets will have 6.2-, 6.7-, and 6.8-inch screens, respectively. The S24 and S24+ appear to have three rear-facing cameras, while the Ultra has four, including a 200-megapixel sensor.
The Ultra retains much DNA passed down from the Galaxy Note range, such as square edges and S Pen capability. The ultra-premium variant, like the iPhone 15 Pro Max before it, is expected to have a titanium option.
Despite being among the first to use Qualcomm’s more powerful and energy-efficient Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 CPU, leaked pricing sheets indicate a cheaper price point in Europe, which might be good news for potential purchasers everywhere.
The event is taking place in the South Bay this time. It begins at 10 a.m. PT and will be streamed live here. If you wish to reserve the gadget without seeing it, you may get a $50 “reserve credit” on preorders until January 16.
