The newest games in The Sims franchise, The Sims 4, will be released on console on November 17 of this year according to a trailer available on The Sims official YouTube channel.
The Sims 4 was originally released in September of 2014 on Microsoft Windows and later released for macOS in February of 2015. It became the best-selling PC game in both 2014 and 2015 and sold 5 million copies as of October of 2016, according to TechCrunch.
Like most of The Sims games, The Sims 4 features deep character customization and house customization and the ability to do basically, well, whatever you want your Sims to do. Players can also get their Sims to make friends (or you could make their friends), start families, throw a party, or pursue personal interests like art and explore. Since it is heavily a sandbox and life simulation game, there is a lot to do in the world of The Sims 4.
On Metacritic, The Sims 4 received a score of a 70 on PC. Many reviewers (both critics and general players) complained mostly about the lack of content the series had, and believed that a lot of the content they hoped would be in the game was probably a part of a DLC expansion they would have to pay for. Considering that The Sims 4 has over 15 different DLC packs, it seems that the complaints may be acceptable.
One reviewer from JeuxActu gave The Sims 4 a score of 70, which was the average score for the game.
“Although The Sims 4 brings a few new features, namely the emotion system, it can only make the early fans unhappy and disappointed. Electronic Arts erased many elements and features that were essential and representative of the saga. And we already know that EA will sell them in a few months, included inside expansive expansion packs,” said the reviewer from JeuxActu on The Sims 4. A full review can be found here.
Both console editions of The Sims 4 will be available in both a Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition of the game. The Standard Edition of The Sims 4 features the base game only, but if you pre-order it, you will also receive The Sims 4 Perfect Patio Stuff DLC expansion.
On the other hand, the Deluxe Edition of The Sims 4 features the base game, the pre-order bonus along with three days of early access (again, if you pre-order this edition), the Life of the Party Digital Content, the Up All Night Digital Content, and the Awesome Animal Hats Digital content.
Also, a demo of The Sims 4 will be available for those who have EA Access on Xbox One. You can start playing the game as early as November 9, and any progress made in your demo will carry over to the full game if you choose to purchase it.
The Standard Edition of The Sims 4 is currently available for pre-order for both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for $49.99 on their respective store websites. Also, the Deluxe Edition for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 is available to pre-order for $59.99. Discounts are available for those who have EA Access on Xbox One.
With over 200 million copies sold and being considered one of the best-selling game franchises of all time (according to this press release), bringing The Sims 4 to console will open up more doors to players who don’t want to play on PC/don’t own a PC and only have a console. Most of the games in the Sims franchise have console ports, but they usually take a couple years after the original game has been released on PC. Since The Sims has been released on Nintendo consoles before, maybe the Nintendo Switch will join the lineup of consoles to have The Sims 4.
