Nintendo has officially revealed key details about the highly anticipated Switch 2, set to launch on June 5, 2025. With a higher price, upgraded hardware, and exclusive new games, the Switch 2 aims to build upon the massive success of the original Nintendo Switch, which has sold over 150 million units since 2017.
The Switch 2 will be available worldwide on June 5, 2025, with two pricing tiers: the standard edition for $449.99 and the Mario Kart World bundle for $499.99. In the UK, the console is priced at £395.99, while in Germany, it will cost €469.99. Preorders open on April 8th in Europe and April 9th in North America.
Each Switch 2 package will include Joy-Con 2 controllers, a Switch 2 dock, an HDMI cable, a USB-C charging cable, and a Switch 2 AC adapter. The hardware upgrades include a larger 7.9-inch 1080p screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 256GB of internal storage (up from 32GB on the original Switch), and a 4K dock that upscales games when connected to a TV. The new Joy-Con 2 controllers can function like a mouse, and battery life has been optimized for longer gaming sessions.
Nintendo is also launching several new accessories, including the Switch 2 Camera for video chats, a Switch 2 Pro Controller with customizable rear buttons, and support for GameCube games on the Switch 2. Additionally, some of Nintendo’s best Zelda games are receiving Switch 2 Editions optimized for the upgraded hardware.
A major launch title for the Switch 2 is Mario Kart World, which introduces an open-world mode, dynamic weather and time effects, and up to 24 drivers per race. Other confirmed and rumored titles include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Switch 2 Edition, a new Pokémon game, Metroid Prime 4, and Super Mario Odyssey 2.
Beyond gaming, Nintendo has been expanding its brand with ventures such as Super Nintendo World theme parks, feature films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2, a Nintendo Museum set to open in 2025 in Japan, and even its own streaming services and news apps.
With its powerful hardware upgrades, new accessories, and exclusive games, the Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be an exciting successor. While its higher price may raise concerns, the enhanced performance and 4K capabilities could make it a worthy investment. As June 5th approaches, more game announcements and hands-on previews will provide a clearer picture of what the Switch 2 truly offers.
