Diesel has just introduced the Diesel On Axial smartwatch. It has a strong focus on an eye-catching design to backs up its claims.
It’s a rebranded Fossil smartwatch. Moreover, it is a rebranded Fossil Gen 5, which makes it better than its competitors. Although it is a bit expensive, it has great looks that you won’t find anywhere else.
Price:
The Diesel On Axial has a recommended retail price of $350. You can find some discounts in the US. However, for U.K. buyers, it is available for $290 to $325 on Amazon. The fluctuating price mainly depends upon your color choice. The main color options are Bronze Stainless Steel, Black Leather, Blue Denim, or Gunmetal-Tone. Depending on your choice, you can go for a denim strap, a genuine leather strap, or a stainless-steel bracelet style strap.
Design:
The Diesel on Axial has a bold design, and it is quite noticeable. It has a porthole-style watch face, which gives it a punk look.
Although watches should be gender-neutral, this watch certainly seems masculine. Everything about this watch is tough and rough. It has textured buttons that stand out and give it the appearance of an old-fashioned stopwatch.
The watch bezel is quite huge. It’s a 48mm watch and seems incredibly big on the wrists. So, you should buy this watch only if you have medium-sized wrists because it would seem comical otherwise. Moreover, its 24mm strap is also big. However, it is quite comfortable to wear.
Although it is oversized, its screen looks like a Fossil-based watch. It features a 1.28-inch AMOLED display with a 416 x 416 resolution. This is the same size as the Fossil Gen 5, and this watch doesn’t contain any Diesel Logo on the front. However, there is a logo sign at the back of the watch.
Specs and features:
The Diesel On Axial has, more or less, the same hardware as the Fossil Gen 5. It contains 1 GB RAM, 8G storage space, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset.
The watch is undoubtedly better than others with older chipsets and less RAM. However, its speed is lower than that of a smartphone. Moreover, there are many applaudable features, like a built-in speaker for when you want to make calls through the watch. Of Course, to make calls, your watch should be tethered to your phone. The watch also features Google Play support, heart rate monitoring, waterproofing, and in-built GPS. Although it’s ordinary stuff, you shouldn’t take it for granted.
Diesel also uses dedicated apps, like the Diesel T-ON-I app and a Steps Goal app. Diesel T-ON-I is a motivational tool. It throws some backhanded compliments and encourages you regarding your business.
This feature makes the Diesel On Axial stand out among a crowd. Moreover, the dedicated watch faces, such as the default animated tunnel effect, also give it a different look.
Fitness:
The Diesel on Axial faces issues similar to the Fossil Gen-5 based smartwatches. Its GPS has a limited reach, so you can’t take it too far away from your phone. It’s quite frustrating, especially if you want to go running without your phone.
In other fitness aspects, the watch performs quite well. Heart rate monitoring is quite accurate. However, we advise you to buy a separate strap for your workouts.
Battery Life:
Due to a better chipset, the Diesel on Axial has extended battery life. You can streamline the features you wish to use, which saves you battery and allows you to do all the things that you want. However, it isn’t an ideal solution.
You should charge the watch overnight if you have been using it throughout the day. However, if you use the watch less, you can go for two to three days without charging. Still, its battery is a bit weak. If you are interested in watches with a long-lasting battery, you should check out the Matrix Powerwatch X review here.
Verdict:
The Diesel On Axial has many upsides like it has a great design, built-in speaker, and a tougher look. However, its battery is a bit weak, and it isn’t suitable for skinny people. Still, if you have a solid wrist and want an all-rounder watch for your workouts, you should buy the Diesel On Axial smartwatch.
