DLC at E3: Which Games Will be Getting New Expansions?

DLC is a big part of E3, considering many games already released are getting new expansions that will be released soon. Here is a list of some of the DLC announced at E3 from some of your favorite games:

  • Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider

The story of Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider has the player take on a completely different character and story. Here is the story from Dishonored 2‘s official website:

“From the award-winning developers at Arkane Studios comes Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, the first standalone adventure in the critically-acclaimed Dishonored series. Be a badass supernatural assassin and take on the role of notorious Billie Lurk as she reunites with her mentor Daud in order to pull off the greatest assassination ever conceived. To complete your mission you’ll have to journey deep into the seedy underbelly of Karnaca, where you’ll unravel some the city’s darkest secrets. Along the way you’ll infiltrate underground fight clubs and black magic cults, and retrieve ancient artifacts in a thrilling bank heist mission that sets the table for your greatest mission ever.”

The gameplay mechanics are the same as the ones in Dishonored 2, where the player has the choice whether to strike enemies with force or lurk in the shadows, waiting for the perfect opportunity. Along with new weapons, gadgets and weapons, players will come face to face with a set of new enemies not seen in Dishonored 2. No specifics on what these will be quite yet, although the website teases new enemies Envisioned, Sisters of the Ocular Order and Clockwork Soldiers. Also, new side missions will be available to play.

Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider will be released on September 15 of this year on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC for $29.99 Pre-order details are available on the Dishonored 2 official website. Also, if you want to see the introduction to the story, you can watch the official Dishonored 2: Death of the Outsider E3 trailer here.

  • Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

Another big DLC announcement from E3 is for PlayStation 4 exclusive, Horizon Zero DawnHorizon Zero Dawn, although just being released earlier this year is one of the PlayStation 4’s most popular games, reaching over 3.4 million copies sold according to Polygon. Here is a teaser of the new story, from Guerrilla’s (Horizon Zero Dawn‘s developer) official website:

“Beyond the northern mountains, the borderlands of the Banuk tribe challenge all who dare enter to survive the extremes. But now this frozen wilderness harbors a new threat, and for Aloy, a new mystery – one she’s determined to solve.

The Frozen Wilds contains additional content for Horizon Zero Dawn, including new story lines, characters and experiences in a beautiful but unforgiving new area.”

The trailer played at E3 shows that Aloy, Horizon Zero Dawn‘s protagonist, must face a new beast in order to explore the mountain and find out answers. Not much has been teased about what the DLC will include besides what is mentioned in the story teaser. It will be released sometime in 2017.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Expansion Pass

Nintendo announced not one, but two upcoming DLC packs for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild! Fans, be excited, as the first round of DLC named The Master Trials (DLC Pack 1) is coming out on June 30 of this year while The Champion’s Ballad (DLC Pack 2) comes out during the holiday season this year!

The Master Trials will include new features like The Trial of the Sword, Hero’s Path Mode, Hard Mode, the Travel Medallion, more armor dedicated to past Legend of Zelda games and a Korok mask hidden somewhere in the world according to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild official news page.

In Trial of the Sword, Link has to fight against a wave of enemies in one room without the use of equipment, and once he completes all 45 rooms, he will earn the Master Sword in its powered-up state. Hero’s Path Mode shows the path of where the player has been in the last 200 hours of gameplay, including showing where the player spends the most time which can encourage adventuring into distant lands. In Hard Mode, enemies gradually regain health, are a level higher than normal gameplay, and the maximum level enemies can be has increased. The Travel Medallion, which players have to search for, can register a point on the map for fast travel. If players change the point, then the previous point will no longer be available. The Korok mask will help players spot Korok locations so that the player can collect them.

The Expansion Pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available in the Nintendo Switch and Wii U versions of the game for $19.99. The Expansion Pass grants players the ability to download all the upcoming DLC when it is released.
