EA Announces New Titles A Way Out and Anthem at EA Play

EA Redwood Shores

EA announced two new games Anthem and A Way Out at their E3 2017 press conference named EA Play on June 10 at 12pm PST.

The first of their two new games, A Way Out, is a co-op multiplayer only game where players take on characters Leo and Vincent, two criminals who have never crossed paths trying to break out of prison together. A Way Out will be played in split screen mode, so that both players can see what the other is doing to further understand how to help.

“I wanted to play a game where the characters had unique personalities and goals,” said Josef Fares, the writer and director of A Way Out, “a game where me and a friend can embark on an emotional journey together, and this is exactly what A Way Out is.”

The reveal trailer for A Way Out shows how Leo and Vincent will have to co-operate with each other to successfully escape prison without being caught. Creating a secret passageway through the back of their toilet, busting through metal doors, high speed chases where one player is driving and the other shoots, scaling and jumping through glass buildings, fighting off cops, and jumping off cliffs with one holding their hand out to catch the other are some of the features introduced in the trailer. The players will also have a chance to interact with and discover more about Leo and Vincent’s backstories and the families they left behind after going to prison.

“The game is designed for split screen co-op only, and I mean only,” said Fares. “So, you will be able to play it online, but to get the full experience and feel, we want you and your friend to play it on your couch.

A Way Out is developed by Hazelight Studios (a new studio with the team behind Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons) and will be released sometime in early 2018. More information can be found on A Way Out‘s official website, along with its social media accounts.

The second game introduced is Anthem, developed by BioWare and Frostbite. Although not much about the game was released until the Xbox E3 press conference, EA offered a teaser trailer so that players can get an idea of what the game’s story will be.

In the teaser trailer, the world is seemingly destroyed and decaying, an overgrown lush forest covering it. The narrator says, “The wall… it’s our armor, it protects us from what lies beyond.” A giant monster can be seen appearing from this forest, snarling loudly. The narrator continues, “But out there, you live with the choices you make, or die trying to change them.” A lab making mechanical suits can be seen, with a person entering one of them, assumed to be going to fight against these beasts. “It’s just the beginning,” the narrator says.

Gameplay for Anthem will be revealed at the Xbox E3 press conference on June 11. Players can find out more information on Anthem from its official website. No information on a release date has been published at this time.

Along with these two new games, EA also announced new updates coming to Battlefield 1 and Star Wars Battlefront 2, along with more information on Madden 18FIFA 18Need For Speed: Payback, and NBA Live 18. EA kicked off E3 press conferences this weekend, with more coming from Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Bethesda, Ubisoft and Devolver Digital.

E3 has an incredibly packed line-up this year, so be sure to stay tuned to Whizord to find out more information about upcoming new games, consoles, big game updates, and more!
