Nintendo Switch 2 Launches on June 5th for $449.99

Nintendo has officially announced key details about the Switch 2, including its release date, pricing, upgraded hardware, and new game lineup. The next-generation hybrid console will launch on June 5, 2025, with a starting price of $449.99.

Nintendo Switch 2 Pricing & Preorder Information

Nintendo has confirmed multiple pricing tiers for the Switch 2:

  • Standard Edition$449.99

  • Mario Kart World Bundle$499.99

  • Regional Pricing:

    • UK: £395.99

    • Germany: €469.99

Preorder Dates

  • April 8th – Preorders open in Europe

  • April 9th – Preorders open in North America

Each Switch 2 package will include:
Joy-Con 2 controllers
Switch 2 dock
HDMI cable
USB-C charging cable
Switch 2 AC adapter

Hardware Upgrades & New Features

Nintendo is delivering significant improvements over the original Switch, including:

  • Display: 7.9-inch, 1080p screen with a 120Hz refresh rate

  • Storage: 256GB internal storage (up from 32GB on the original Switch)

  • Performance: 4K upscaling when docked

  • Controllers: Joy-Con 2 controllers now function like a mouse

  • Battery Life: Improved efficiency for longer play sessions

Mario Kart World: A New Open-World Experience

Nintendo is launching Mario Kart World as an exclusive title for the Switch 2. The latest entry in the iconic racing series introduces:

New Open-World Mode – Explore vast tracks beyond traditional circuits
Dynamic Weather & Time Effects – Race in conditions that change based on real-world time
24-Driver Races – Expanded multiplayer competition

The Switch Legacy & Nintendo’s Future

Since its 2017 launch, the original Nintendo Switch has sold over 150 million units, making it one of the best-selling consoles of all time. This puts it in close competition with the Nintendo DS (155M) and PlayStation 2 (160M).
