Nintendo Switch is Getting a Keyboard With Joy-Con Support

The Nintendo Switch is receiving a new piece of hardware that may make more PC gamers interested. A Nintendo Switch compatible keyboard with Joy-Con support, it’s actually rare that gaming consoles that primarily use controllers receive keyboards. Cyber Gadget, a Japanese company specializing in video game console accessories and hardware, designed the keyboard for the Nintendo Switch. The main reason behind the keyboard being created is the upcoming video game Dragon Quest X as well as the massively popular Dragon Quest franchise which was particularly popular amongst PC gamers despite it originally being launched on the Wii back in 2012, the game was then later released on the Wii U, Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Android, iOS, and 3DS.

The game has also had had multiple versions with the 4th version being released on the Switch. Like any MMORPGs chatting with other players online apart of the experience, which can be difficult to do with a normal controller, having a keyboard allows players to have easier access to the keys rather than constantly having to scroll to each letter on the virtual keyboard displayed on the gaming screen. The keyboard may look or even feel weird for gamers who are not used to using it, but luckily the Joy-Cons are able to be attached at the side of the keyboard allowing for players to still use the Joy-Con controllers to move around and play the game and use the keyboard to message other gamers, or for PC gamers the keyboard can be used to solely play the game as well, however, the Joy-Cons must be attached in order to connect to the Nintendo Switch.

Unfortunately, Dragon Quest X isn’t available outside of the Japan and there is a possibility that the keyboard will not be either, so for those who wish to purchase it, ordering for Japan is your best option. However, Square Enix has stated that if the game receives enough demand from Western consumers then it will be translated for a Western release and the keyboard will likely follow for a US and Europe release, as well as any other MMORPGs that are well received worldwide. The keyboard will approximately cost 3650.11 Japanese Yen ($32), which is actually cheap in comparison to other Nintendo Switch accessories, the keyboard will include a 150cm-long USB cable for connection but the keyboard will not charge the Joy-Con controllers while connected. Happy gaming!
