Spain’s Telefonica open to fiber deal with Vodafone

On Thursday, a top official at Spanish telecom operator Telefonica (TEF.MC) said that the business is interested in discussing a prospective agreement on fiber networks in Spain with rival Vodafone (VOD.L).

A corporate representative acknowledged Thursday that the comments by COO Angel Vila that the Spanish corporation is “open and prepared” were accurate, corroborating a report from Bloomberg.

Vodafone’s new CEO, Margherita Della Valle, is under pressure to change up the underperforming division, which spans Europe and Africa.

The corporation wants to sell up its Spanish operations, but due to its large market share, doing so would face significant antitrust challenges.
