On Friday, Chinese technology company Tencent Holdings (0700. HK) unveiled Last Sentinel, a high-end console game. This game is considered the mobile gaming giant’s most ambitious entry into the console industry.
The company presented a trailer for the action role-playing game in Shenzhen at the Game Awards, which took place in Los Angeles City. Throughout, two hundred individuals are working on the game at Tencent’s Lightspeed LA game studio, a significant U.S. facility at the core of Tencent’s efforts to expand its operations worldwide.
Although Tencent will let players engage in combat with robots in a dystopian Japan, it has not disclosed a debut date for the game.
To strengthen Tencent’s position in the console gaming market, the company hired Steve Martin, a well-known industry veteran who has contributed to some of the most popular console games ever, including Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption.
It is renowned primarily for generating popular mobile games such as PUBG Mobile. Chinese gamers have generally spent more money on mobile games because they are often less expensive. Tencent is primarily recognized for developing mobile games.
On the other hand, Tencent is investing a lot of resources into high-budget console games as it seeks to grow its operations overseas and satisfy the shifting preferences of Chinese customers in their own country.
Last Sentinel will be a showpiece for Tencent’s in-house production capabilities; nevertheless, the business has already acquired significant holdings in several of the most successful game companies in the world, including a thirty percent investment in Larian Studios. This company developed Baldur’s Gate 3.
