Amazon has given its Kindle lineup one of its biggest physical redesigns in years, replacing the traditional raised bezel around the screen with a flush-front design across several refreshed models.
The change creates a cleaner appearance while removing the physical edge that traditionally gave readers a place to rest their fingers. Amazon says it has addressed the risk of accidental screen touches with a combination of capacitive touch technology and haptics.
A Bezel-Free Reading Experience

Kevin Keith, Amazon’s vice president of devices, said the new Kindles use capacitive touch technology to create what the company calls a “dead zone.” The device can detect where a reader’s finger is resting while holding it and automatically adjust the touch-sensitive area to prevent unintended commands.
The standard six-inch Kindle is now 6.8 millimeters thick and weighs 140 grams, making it thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Amazon is positioning the device as its most pocket-friendly Kindle.
The new display is also 30 percent faster when opening books compared with the previous generation. The standard Kindle starts at $149.99 and comes in Ube and Graphite. Amazon is also introducing an aluminum-backed version with 32GB of storage, available in Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green.
The redesign extends to the Kindle Paperwhite, which is also thinner and lighter than the outgoing model. Amazon says the Paperwhite features the largest display in the Kindle range and its highest contrast ratio, designed to produce darker blacks and sharper text in different lighting conditions.
The 16GB Paperwhite costs $199.99 in Graphite, while the 32GB Signature Edition is priced at $249.99 and comes in Graphite and Seaglass Green.
Amazon’s Kindle Colorsoft, first introduced in 2024 as the company’s first Kindle with a color display, is also receiving the flush-front treatment. The 16GB model starts at $289.99 in Graphite, while the 32GB Signature Edition costs $319.99 and is offered in Graphite and Fig.
The standard Kindle and aluminum model are available immediately in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the U.K., Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Australia.
The new Paperwhite and Colorsoft models are available for preorder in the same markets. Amazon is also continuing to sell its Kids Kindle range, with the Kids Kindle Colorsoft available for preorder in select countries.
