Today, Mark Zuckerberg said that Meta has begun testing a feature to display thread postings on Mastodon and other networks implementing the ActivityPub protocol.
“Making threads interoperable will provide users with more options for how they interact with one another, and it will also assist in expanding the audience for content.” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg expressed his optimism over the situation in a post.
Even though this is a significant step toward Threads becoming a part of the federated social network, Zuckerberg has not yet provided any specifics on how the integration would operate.
The plan for integrating ActivityPub into Threads is not entirely apparent; nevertheless, this connection may make it possible for you to cross-post between Mastodon (or other ActivityPub-powered networks) and Threads and transfer your data around.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, stated that the social network would not integrate with the Fediverse at the time of the debut of Threads since it was introduced in July. On the other hand, he stressed that Meta continued integrating its most recent platform with the decentralized social network.
We are dedicated to incorporating support for ActivityPub, the protocol that underpins Mastodon, into our smartphone application. At that time, he stated that “it is coming,” even though “we were not able to finish it for launch due to several complications that come along with a decentralized network.”
An option for users to verify their profile on Mastodon was made available by Threads in August. The firm established a relationship between the two accounts by referring connections to each other. The addition of “rel=me” links made this possible.
The announcement by Zuckerberg today is the first concrete proof that Meta intends to integrate Threads into the decentralized social network system.
