Adobe adds generative AI to Photoshop.

Adobe Inc. (ADBE.O) announced Tuesday that Photoshop, its image editing program, will include AI technology for image generation.

The San Jose, California-based company said it was the first step in adding AI technology to its creative professional programs.

Due to legal issues surrounding the data required to construct programs like OpenAI’s Dall-E, big corporations have yet to adopt them.
Adobe’s Firefly core technology solution, which uses lawful image data and may be utilized commercially, addresses those problems.

On Tuesday, Adobe announced it would add functionality to Photoshop, its most popular tool based on the technology.

“Generative Fill” will let users extend an image cropped too closely with computer-generated content or add features based on written descriptions.

The function can turn a single flower photo into a field of flowers with a mountain range in the background.

Adobe’s chief technology officer for digital media, Ely Greenfield, said the tool aims to help graphic artists develop new graphics faster from different ideas. For example, they spent hours exploring photo archives and hand-stitching images.

“This just dramatically accelerates that production work,” Greenfield added.
