Adobe, others join voluntary US scheme to manage AI risks

The voluntary pledges to regulate artificial intelligence (AI) made by U.S. President Joe Biden have been signed by Adobe (ADBE.O), IBM (IBM.N), Nvidia (NVDA.O), and five other companies, the White House said on Tuesday. These commitments call for actions, including watermarking information produced by AI.

The first pledges, made public in July, were intended to prevent the negative use of AI’s capabilities. In July, Google, OpenAI, and Microsoft (MSFT.O), an OpenAI partner, signed the promises.
White House chief of staff Jeff Zients said, “The president has been clear: harness the benefits of AI, manage the risks, and move fast – very fast.” And we are collaborating with the business sector and using every tool.

Scale, Cohere, Stability, Salesforce (CRM.N), and Palantir (PLTR.N) are the other five businesses that have agreed to the pledges.

Several businesses were anticipated to attend a White House discussion on Tuesday with Zients and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.

Since Congress has undertaken conversations on prospective AI legislation, but nothing has been proposed, and little meaningful has become law, the private pledges supported by the Biden administration are considered a stopgap. A White House executive order on AI has also been under development.
