San Francisco’s MobileCoin CPO Robert Lee was stabbed to death.

Around 2:35 a.m. Tuesday, the San Francisco Police Department responded to a stabbing along the 300 block of Main Street in SoMa. He died in the hospital.

NBC Bay Area later reported that 43-year-old Robert Lee was stabbed. MobileCoin told Bloomberg and ABC7 News.

Bob Lee developed essential libraries at Google for the first few years of Android before joining MobileCoin. Square, subsequently Block, hired him to design its Android app. He built Cash App and was the first CTO.

“Crazy Bob” Lee invested in IT firms. His LinkedIn page lists investments in SpaceX, Clubhouse, Tile, Figma, Faire, Orchid, Addressable, Nana, Ticket Fairy, Gowalla, Asha, SiPhox, Netswitch, Found, and others.

Tech mourned the news. “It’s genuine. Receiving calls. Heartbreaking. Bob aided Square and Cash App. STL person,” commented Block CEO Jack Dorsey on most.

“So sad to hear about @crazybob’s tragic death. I met him in the summer of 2006, and we spoke about tech/programming. He supported Figma early on. “It’s hard to realize he’s gone,” Figma CEO Dylan Field tweeted.

Bob’s code creates numbers. “Bob’s Java code employs smart backtracking techniques to obtain the greatest performance among all solutions in all languages,” Hintymad said on Hacker News.
