A copycat smartphone seems to have made a very big mistake when designing one of their phones, which caused it explode in an unfortunate user’s pocket. Currently, Xiaomi is the biggest smartphone company start-up in the world, which is because of the fact that when the company first started out they copied every move that Apple made, their phones were rip-offs of the iPhone and their marketing tactics copied Apple as well.
The company even unveiled one of their phones by having one of their executives announce the phone while wearing jeans and a black turtleneck (sound familiar?). Surprisingly, Apple never took any copyright infringement action against them for the design of their phones, but the company did not stop at Apple, they soon began copying Samsung as well, one of their most popular smartphones is named the “Note” which is a ripoff of Samsung’s Galaxy Note lineup, and their latest phone the “RedMi Note” copies elements from Samsung, Apple, and even HTC at the same time and it seems as though the company is having the same problem with their phones as Samsung was having with a few of their products.
Samsung had a problem last year with a few of their devices such as the Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy Grand, and Galaxy Note 2 batteries going up in flames and there was a big incident last year in September where a Galaxy tablet exploded on a plane during a Delta flight from Detroit to Amsterdam. Xiaomi’s RedMi Note 4 seems to be having the same problem, a Note 4 apparently exploded while in a man’s front pocket, leaving him with severe burns on his left outer thigh. The incident occurred in East Godavari in India, the owner of the phone Bhavana Suryakiran states that the phone burst into flames in his pocket while he was riding his bicycle, he tried to remove the phone from his pocket but could not due to the flames and the heat, and it wasn’t until bystanders doused his leg in water that he was finally able to remove the phone from his pants, Suryakiran stated that the phone was still on fire even after a bucket of water was poured over it.
Currently it is unknown if the phone had received any damage prior to the incident which may have lead to the explosion, even though Samsung products have been reported exploded in the past it was usually due to the device having sustained some prior impact damage beforehand. Xiaomi doesn’t seem to be phased by their phone exploding and there has been no word from the company on the incident, but the company is expected to unveil their next generation RedMi Note 4 later this month, but after this incident, the company may not be receiving too much business. Hopefully this problem doesn’t persist.
