One of most beloved Disney film series, Cars, is set to premiere their third installment on June 16th. The film stars an anthropomorphic racecar named Lightning McQueen alongside other anthropomorphic vehicles in a series of misadventures. Cars 3 is set to center around McQueen’s training to regain his 1st place title in the racing world, alongside a new anthropomorphic car friend who helps him along the way.
Fans of the series are waiting in anticipation for the movie to release, but thanks to Disney’s partnership with Sportie LA a “Fashion Pit Stop” pop-up shop next to the original retailers main store on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles, California the shop is set to feature merchandise from both Cars film series and Nascar. Sportie LA is a sneaker, apparel, and accessory shop, which makes it a perfect partner for Disney to promote the release of their upcoming film.
Executive vice president of global licensing for Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media had this to say as to why he chose to partner with Sportie LA for this project, “Sportie LA is an L.A. institution, they’re well-known sneaker heads for their on-trend offerings. They’re very much at the genesis of the hip culture.”
The store is set to be able to cater to those who have been watching and loving the Cars film series since it first premiered, whether they be children or adults. The original Cars film grossed approximately $462.2 million following its release in 2006, the sequel Cars 2 grossed $562.1 following its 2011 release and Disney is hoping that Cars 3 will surpass it’s predecessors at the box office. Disney’s partnership with Nascar hopes to draw in a adult crowd even if they are not fans of the film series. However, the shop itself is primarily focused on connecting with audience members of all ages, as well as expanding the story itself to further draw in the audience once the film is released.
The voices of the lovable characters behind the Cars film series will be given many special gift bags by the store, which contain special merchandise from the store Owen Wilson (Lightning McQueen), Armie Hammer (Jackson Storm), and beloved standup comedian Larry the Cable Guy (Mater) are among some of the names that will be presented with this special merchandise.
