Since 2016, Bumble users might connect their Spotify accounts. In addition, the dating app is improving integration. For example, today’s “Top Artists” function pulls musicians from a Spotify user’s top 50 and displays the top 10 on their profile, telling potential matches which top artists they share.
If a match has Spotify, users can view shared artists. The profile looks regular if the possible match doesn’t share the user’s top artists.
Bumble users can hide their top 50 artists in the profile editor. Unlink the Spotify account to disable the new feature. If you play “The Muppet Show” soundtrack on repeat, you can hide it. Bumble said that most U.S. users had linked their Spotify accounts to their profiles, with Gen-Zers doing so most. Spotify-linked users got more right swipes.
Some may not mind music. However, if music tastes differ, it may be hard to connect with someone. For example, how often do Swifties (Taylor Swift fans) hold hands with heavy metal fans? It’s likely rare. Top Artists helps users find common interests.
“Despite the popular belief that opposites attract, research has consistently shown that having similarities in important areas, such as values and lifestyles, is actually the key to a successful romantic relationship,” stated Bumble’s Sex and Relationships Expert Shan Boodram.
“Discovering that you and a potential romantic partner love the same artist is a fun and fast way to establish common ground, plus it provides a natural segue to start other important conversations around each person’s priorities and passions,” Boodram said.
