X’s new control lets only verified accounts reply to a post

X, once known as Twitter, has just implemented a new rule restricting responses to only verified users. However, the control is not limited to only those accounts who have paid for it. Users who do not subscribe to X Premium can restrict non-verified users’ ability to respond to their posts.

Elon Musk stated a few hours after the launch of the functionality that this additional option “should help a bot with spam bots.” The feature that allows you to restrict replies to either “Accounts you follow” or “Only accounts you mention” was initially introduced by Twitter in 2020. On the other hand, during that period, users may only select this option before writing a tweet. Twitter expanded the feature’s functionality in 2021 so that users could manage replies even after publishing a tweet. Even if users cannot reply to a post, they are still permitted to cite it.

Verified accounts already have an advantage on X since users receive a higher position in both discussion and search results as part of the benefits of subscribing to the service. Paid users can now have a greater chance of getting seen, thanks to a new setting on X that limits answers to only verified accounts.

Even while Musk aims to reduce spam in responses, no assurance that verified users won’t publish inappropriate or dangerous content. An article published by NBC News earlier this week made notice that numerous verified accounts on X were publishing bogus news about Joe Biden, the Vice President of the United States, providing $8 billion to Israel as military aid.
