YouTube has introduced its first-ever personalized recap for videos watched on the main platform, giving users a detailed overview of their viewing habits over the past year. While the platform has offered YouTube Music Recaps in previous years, the new feature expands the experience to include regular video content, mirroring the growing popularity of Spotify Wrapped-style year-end summaries.
The new YouTube Recap presents up to 12 personalized cards highlighting top channels, interests, and evolving viewing patterns. Users are also assigned a personality type based on their video preferences. Categories include “Skill Builder” for those consuming educational content, “Sunshiners” for fans of uplifting videos, and “Trailblazers” for viewers seeking original, boundary-pushing material. Other classifications, such as “Wonder Seeker,” “Connector,” and “Dreamer,” help users understand their unique engagement style across the platform.
In addition to personality insights, YouTube Recap offers an overview of top artists and songs. For a deeper dive into music consumption, users can access their annual YouTube Music Recap, which began rolling out last week. The video recap is available now in North America, with a global rollout expected later this week. Users can access their personalized recap directly on the YouTube homepage or under the “You” tab, across both mobile and desktop platforms.
YouTube confirmed that the feature was developed in response to user feedback, with over 50 concept tests conducted before finalizing the current version. The goal is to provide a fun, informative, and shareable summary of user engagement, encouraging reflection on viewing habits while highlighting trends and popular content.
Alongside personalized recaps, YouTube released trend charts showcasing the top creators, podcasts, and songs of the year. MrBeast maintained his position as the top creator for the sixth consecutive year, while “The Joe Rogan Experience” topped the podcast category. Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga claimed the number one song spot with their hit “Die with a Smile.”
The launch of YouTube Recap coincides with other music and streaming platforms’ year-end summaries, including Apple Music’s Replay and Amazon Music’s 2025 Delivered. Spotify has yet to release its anticipated Wrapped, giving YouTube and competitors a chance to dominate early social sharing for 2025 content insights.
By integrating personalized video recaps, YouTube aims to strengthen user engagement, encourage content discovery, and enhance the social sharing experience, positioning itself as a leader in interactive year-end reviews.
