In this comprehensive guide, we will walk you through the process of adding your student ID to Samsung Wallet, an innovative app by Samsung that allows users to store debit and credit cards, loyalty cards, and now, student IDs. With Samsung Wallet’s new feature, you can easily access your campus card with just a tap on your Galaxy device at participating schools and colleges. This guide will cover the steps to set up your digital student ID, the benefits it offers, and the supported institutions. Let’s get started!

1. Introduction to Samsung Wallet’s Student ID Support

Samsung Wallet, a year-old app, has been gaining popularity as a versatile digital wallet for Galaxy users. Initially offering support for debit and credit cards, loyalty cards, and driver’s licenses, it later expanded its capabilities to include student IDs. However, the feature was not available at launch due to the need for support from participating institutions. Now, Samsung Wallet has partnered with Transact Campus, providing access to over 1,800 institutions, including 68 colleges, universities, and higher education institutes.

2. The Benefits of Using Student IDs in Samsung Wallet

Adding your student ID to Samsung Wallet brings a host of benefits beyond visual confirmation. With NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, students can now unlock doors and make payments using their Galaxy devices, making it a convenient and secure way to access facilities and services on campus. Moreover, Samsung Wallet introduces “Fast Mode,” enabling users to present their NFC ID without unlocking the device swiftly. For situations with low battery power, the “Power Reserve” feature comes to the rescue, allowing students to utilize their device even when it’s about to power off.

While Samsung Wallet’s student ID support is undoubtedly exciting, it’s important to note that not all Samsung devices are compatible. To use this feature, you’ll need one of the following US-model Galaxy phones with Samsung’s eSE (embedded secure element) and Android 12 or higher:

  • Galaxy S Series: S20 or later (some S20 FE 5G models may not work)
  • Galaxy Note Series: Note20
  • Galaxy Z Series: Flip 5G, Fold 5G, Z Flip 2, and Fold 2 or later
  • Galaxy A Series: A53

5. Supported Institutions

Samsung Wallet currently supports student IDs at 68 higher-education institutions in the US. Some of the first schools to embrace this feature include Penn State, the University of Florida, Central Michigan University, the University of North Alabama, and the Stevens Institute of Technology. As more campuses are likely to join in, the convenience of using digital student IDs will continue to grow.
