Meet the Detu MAX: The world’s first 3D 8k 360-degree VR camera with an AI chip.
That’s quite a mouthful. Simply put, the Detu MAX is the most powerful, most advanced VR camera made so far. And it’s just quintupled its original Kickstarter goal, ensuring it will be coming soon to backers everywhere.
The Detu MAX uses its AI chip to ensure that any subjects being recorded are always in both focus, and in perspective. It realizes 3D VR images in the same way as a binocular does, ensuring that the translated shots are at their highest possible fidelity. It’s also got stabilization features on 6 different axises, so whether this camera is bobbing with the wind or shaking along the ground, photographers or videographers can rest easy knowing that their footage will still come out crystal-clear.
The AI chip also enables the camera to capture what it calls a “3D Portrait,” which has the system moving around an object to record every inch of it in stunning 8k video. And with specs and abilities like these, this tool is designed with professional photographers and VR videographers in mind. It makes the jobs of a lot of professionals a lot easier, as the AI chip will automatically select a certain subset of captured images and string them together in editing softwares. Of course, photographers are still free to find clips on their own, but the AI tech saves them from going through the trouble of sorting and scanning through dozens of clips with only minor differences between them.
But don’t stop there… The MAX has a few more unique advantages that no other VR camera on the planet currently has access to. The camera is capable of stitching images together from a distance of only 1 meter away, while all other VR cameras on the market require the image to be 3 meters away. This makes the MAX able to capture close-up shots three times as effectively as any other 3D camera out there. In addition, all images captured by the MAX are automatically made compatible with the PC VR decide of a viewer’s choice. Capture something with the MAX, download it onto a PC and strap on your choice of helmet – Occulus or Vive – to enjoy your time in the digital landscape you’ve created.
Speaking of downloading – files are always exported on RAW formats, to ensure highest transfer quality. And when working with 8k video, a resolution so high that few current-gen devices can even support it – you’ll want to ensure that no quality is dropped between file transfers.
The Detu MAX also comes with its own photography software, though users are free to edit images in whatever software they’d prefer. The Detu Max software is the only software to take full advantage of its built-in AI software, and will automatically pick out a number of edits to enhance selected colors of images or videos being taken.
Once again, the MAX is a product for professionals – in simpler terms, it’s good but it ain’t cheap. The Early Bird Special, a discount available only through the Kickstarter, comes in at $2,299. There’s also a deluxe version that comes with a telescoping tripod for $2,399. The base prices for these deals are $3,599 and $3,799 respectively, so you’re looking to save around 30% to 35% with the Kickstarter deals. But you’ve got a good bit of time to make your decision: The Kickstarter campaign does not end until July 28th.
