The Chinese manufacturer claimed in a Friday post on one of its social media platforms that online conversations claiming BYD employees disclosed commercial secrets are nothing more than rumors.
Additionally, BYD stated that police have detained the individual responsible for spreading the rumor and that the company intends to take legal action against the individual.
In the statement, BYD included screenshots of social media posts that spread the rumor that an employee at the company’s semiconductor foundry business had divulged a customer’s chip engineering drawing to U.S. officials. The rumor claimed that the person had done so to further their career.
BYD is the best-selling automobile brand in China based on sales in the first eight months of the year with cars that are either fully electric or plug-in hybrids. Additionally, the company researches, designs, and manufactures low-end chips and electronic components.
