Fallout 4 will finally be receiving its own Game of the Year Edition, according to a news post from the Bethesda official website.
“With all the latest gameplay updates (including Survival mode), graphical enhancements, the ability to play Mods for free on PC and consoles, plus all official add-ons included, this is the ultimate way to experience the award-winning post-nuclear adventure from Bethesda Game Studios,” it says in the news post.
Along with these updates, Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition will also include new areas added through DLC.
“Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition includes the fully updated original game along with all six add-ons: Nuka-World, Vault-Tec Workshop, Contraptions Workshop, Far Harbor, Wasteland Workshop and Automatron,” it says in the news post.
Fallout 4 was released back in November of 2015, so the Game of the Year Edition comes almost two years after the games’ initial release. It ended up becoming one of Bethesda’s most successful games, selling over 12 million copies on the first day of release according to GameSpot. It also beat The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in becoming the company’s most successful game ever.
When it comes to specific numbers, Fallout 4 sold 7.65 million copies for PlayStation 4, 1.42 million copies for PC, and 4.35 million copies for Xbox One according to VGChartz. That adds up to a total of 13.42 million copies just for one game. That is extremely impressive, I must say.
“Winner of more than 200 “Best Of” awards – including the 2016 BAFTA and 2016 D.I.C.E. Game of the Year – Fallout 4 is the studio’s most ambitious game yet. As the sole survivor of Vault 111, you enter a world destroyed by nuclear war. Every second is a fight for survival, and every choice is yours. Only you can rebuild and determine the fate of the Wasteland,” it says in the news post.
On Metacritic, Fallout 4 also got raving reviews by both critics and fans. It received a score of 84 for PC, a score of 87 for PlayStation 4, and a score of 88 for Xbox One.
One reviewer from AusGamers gave the game a score of 100.
“Fallout 4 is a game that will spark conversation and a huge amount of love, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t follow in the footsteps of Skyrim as something of a cultural phenomenon. The game’s only real issue is in the dated visuals, but the engine serves a purpose beyond eye-candy, and hey, we’re mostly walking through irradiated trash anyway, right…Fallout 4 is impossible not to recommend,” it says in the review. Bethesda will also be offering players a Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition. Pip-Boys were notoriously difficult to get when Bethesda announced that players can actually have their own, and sold out almost immediately upon release according to The Verge.
This Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition will actually be cheaper than the original Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4; the Game of the Year Pip-Boy Edition will cost $99.99 while the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy Edition costs $119.99. Similar to the previous edition, this Pip-Boy edition will come in limited quantities, so be sure to grab yours before they sell out again.
Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition will be released on September 26 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
Fallout 4 is probably one of the most expansive and interesting games I’ve seen in a very long time. It gives players the opportunity to discover their own path while also keeping them interested through the story. Bottom line: you are free to do what you want, when you want. If you are interested in that combination (plus, who doesn’t love mods?), then I would highly recommend this game for you.
