A new form has been revealed for a popular new Pokémon in GameFreak and the Pokémon Company’s upcoming games Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, the sequels to the recent Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon video games. It was announced on August 6th that the wolf Pokémon Lycanroc the evolution of Rockruff the puppy Pokémon will be receiving a new evolution in the upcoming games.
The new form was first teased in the on the cover of the Japanese magazine CoroCoro (the magazine was also the first to announce Rockruff from Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon) as a small nearly unidentifiable image. The form is known as Dusk Form Lycanroc and will be the third possible variation of the Lycanroc. Rockruff already has two possible variations of Lycanroc that it is able to evolve into depending on which game it is leveled up in, if Rockruff is leveled up in Pokémon Sun it will evolve into its Midday form and if it is leveled up in Pokémon Moon it will evolve into its Midnight form. The games operated on different time schedules, which also played a key part in evolving Rockruff, Pokémon Sun operated on real world time meaning that whenever it was daytime in the real world it was daytime in the game while for Pokémon Moon it was the opposite.
If Rockruff is leveled up in the daytime in Moon it would not evolve and vice versa for Sun, this made evolving Rockruff rather tricky for trainers who wanted a specific form and meant that in order to get the exclusive forms for each game, they would have to be traded and leveled up in the correct game, Pokémon Sun for the Midday form and Pokémon Moon (though it is possible to catch the version exclusive forms for the opposite games in the wild).
However, this new form of Lycanroc seems as though it will be included in both games and according to the Pokémon Company Dusk Form Lycanroc will not be obtainable through ordinary means, such as discovering the ordinary form in the wild, it is currently unknown exactly players will be able to evolve their Rockruff into it’s new form but fans speculate that you will simply need to evolve their Rockruff during the time of dusk. Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are set to be released on November 17th and will still take place in the tropical Alola region but will tell and alternate story than the original games and feature Pokémon that were not available in the original titles such as the Dusk Form Lycanroc, and for those of you who watch the Pokémon anime (SPOILER ALERT!!) In a special teaser for an upcoming episode, it was revealed that Ash’s Lycanroc is going to evolve into the new Dusk Form Lycanroc! Happy gaming!
