Google Search makes streaming Apple Podcasts and others easier. After discontinuing a feature that let users play podcasts straight from search results earlier this year, the business announced it would “gradually” switch to a new design that would provide podcast information and links to listen on other platforms. We’re informed transformation is underway.
Apple tells us that iPhone and iPad users searching for “kids podcasts” or “movie podcasts” will get a “Listen on Apple Podcasts” option.
Only U.S. Google Search users can utilize the function. After initial testing, it will expand to new markets. For example, searching for “comedy podcasts” revealed a box with several popular titles. For example, you might filter for “stand-up comedy” or “TV,” as well as Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Google Podcasts podcasts.
Google Podcasts was not among the initial filters on the iPhone we checked via Google mobile search.
After tapping on a show, you’re transported to a detail page where you can read a description and learn about the program’s release schedule, duration, and current episodes. Finally, a deep link lets you “Listen now on Apple Podcasts” and access the show in the app.
Spotify also benefits from this functionality. To view Google Podcasts, choose “All Listening Options.” (No self-reference!) Spotify said the feature has been available for over a year, but Apple Podcasts verified it is new.
Given the progressive implementation, this modification may be familiar. However, some users will notice changes before others. For example, Apple said the update acknowledges that many prefer using their preferred podcast app rather than listening in line.
