On Wednesday, contract maker Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd (DIXO.NS) announced that it would be working with the Indian branch of Xiaomi Corp (1810. HK) to produce and export smartphones.
After Xiaomi India announced plans to begin manufacturing wireless audio equipment in the nation in partnership with electronics company Optiemus, shares of Dixon rose by 4 percent.
As part of its plan to emerge as a major player in the global electronics supply chain, India has been pushing multinational corporations to increase their investments in domestic production.
In an interview with Reuters in early March, Xiaomi India President Muralikrishnan B. said the business would increase the local procurement of mobile phone parts and create more outlets beyond its present network of 20,000 retail partners.
