On Monday, Xiaomi Corp’s (1810. HK) Indian unit announced cooperation with Optiemus to make wireless audio products nationwide.
In a statement, Xiaomi India announced it would produce its first local audio device at Optiemus Electronics’ factory in Uttar Pradesh, aiming to boost local component production by 50% by 2025.
The Redmi smartphone maker recently lost its top spot in India to Samsung (005930. KS).
“We are committed to forging more such collaborations for a wider range of categories, across our product line-up,” the business said.
Xiaomi, which domestically manufactures most of its smartphones and TVs in India, did not indicate when it would start creating audio devices. Speakers, earbuds, cables, and wireless headphones are sold in India.
As part of its goal to make India self-sufficient, the government has been encouraging foreign corporations to engage in local manufacturing.
