According to Bloomberg News, Meta Platforms‘ (META.O), Instagram may launch a text-based app in June to compete with Twitter.
The article says Facebook is testing the tool with influencers and producers. Reuters requested a response from the company.
In a newsletter, Verge reporter Alex Heath claimed Meta had contacted talent agencies and celebrities to assess their interest in trying an early app version, which will interface with Instagram.
“The decentralized app is built on the back of Instagram but will be compatible with some other apps like Mastodon,” UCLA social and influencer marketing professor Lia Haberman wrote in a newsletter.
