The Motorola Razr 2019 is an amazing smartphone that’s a throwback to one of the most impressive phone designs ever, the original Razr V3 released in 2004.
It makes sense that Motorola would introduce this popular design in its latest mobile. The Motorola Razr has challenged the assumptions of the industry as to what a futuristic smartphone should like. This model is a foldable phone which you can flip open to see an elongated touchscreen; it’s a bit bigger than the iPhone 11 display.
Although the new Razr is quite impressive, it is quite costly. It is three times more expensive than the launch price of the Moto Z4. Let’s look at the different aspects of the Motorola Razr 2019.
Price:
The company announced Motorola Razr 2019 on November 13 with the pre-orders starting from the 26th of December, 2019. At this pace, its release date will be in January or February 2020.
The new Razr costs $1,500, and you can buy it through Verizon. However, these are the prices in the U.S. We don’t have any information regarding prices in Australia and the U.K. In comparison, the high-tech Huawei Mate costs $2,600, and Samsung’s Galaxy Fold costs $1,980.
Design:
You shouldn’t be fooled from the pictures of Motorola Razr 2019. The device is a bit longer and wider than you would think, so you get a full-fledged smartphone screen and not an imitation. However, the foldable appearance makes up for some less exciting specs. For example, the resolution isn’t that impressive, and the central display isn’t bigger than normal phones.
The amazing thing is the design genius that enables the phone to fold just like a hamburger. The central mechanism is a work of art which enables a balanced action when you close and open the phone repeatedly.
When you fold up the new Razr, it easily fits in your palm along with a textured metal black and glass cover. Moreover, the Motorola Razr chin has antennas, a bottom USB-C port, speakers, and a fingerprint touch sensor.
Camera and Display:
The Razr 2019’s interior display is 21:9 ratio pOLED HD screen. This makes it as wide as the Sony’s Xperia Line, however, it is way less sharp. This isn’t a good sign, especially if you watch too much media. However, at this price, the Razr does well as a foldable screen. Unlike the Galaxy Fold, the Razr 2019 doesn’t have a visible seam. You can feel a hinge beneath the screen, but it doesn’t obstruct the view.
Unlike the smartphones of today that have two rear cameras, the Motorola Razr 2019 has a single 16MP rear camera. However, there is a good 4x digital zoom, so it’s an excellent camera. There is also a 5MP front-facing camera present at the top. Although it’s less sharp, the interesting thing is that you don’t have to flip the phone open to take a selfie or a video.
Performance:
Tech-savvy people might be a bit disappointed here because the Motorola Razr 2019 features a Snapdragon 710 chipset. Its performance is no way near that of the Snapdragon 855 in the Samsung Galaxy Fold. We think that the Motorola Razr 2020 is going to have the Snapdragon 865 chip. You can read more rumors related to Motorola Razr 2020 here.
The Razr 2019 features Android 9. Thus, it misses out some advantages of the Android 10. The device also has several signature Motorola gestures that work when you open and close the phone. An amazing gesture is shaking the phone to turn on the flashlight. Thus, these gestures make the whole experience more comfortable.
Battery:
Motorola Razr 2019’s single biggest weakness is its battery. The battery’s capacity is 2,510mAh. Moreover, the battery is split between the upper and bottom halves.
Motorola claims that the battery will last all day. However, we don’t think it to be true, especially when you use it for strenuous activities like watching media and listening to music. Moreover, the device doesn’t support wireless charging. However, it comes along with a 15W TurboPower charger.
Verdict:
Motorola Razr 2019 is a great effort to revive the flip phone. It has a nice size and is excellent for selfies. However, it lags in certain aspects, like price and battery life. Still, if you are happy with the price, you should buy the futuristic Motorola Razr 2019.
