Nintendo’s ARMS Springs Into The World of Esports

The Nintendo Switch’s latest game ARMS has become quite popular since its release and was even selected to be voted in to join the titles to be displayed at EVO in Las Vegas, sadly the game was not able to join, however, it will be joining Esports next year.

ARMS is set to be featured as one of the main games for the EVO event taking place in Japan in early 2018 at the end of January. EVO (Evolution Championship Series) is an annual Esports event that focuses mainly on fighting games, in 2018 players will participate in tournaments for ARMS, Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2, King of Fighters XIV, BlazBlue: Central Fiction and the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. some older games are missing from the list such as Street Fighter II Turbo, Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. Though these games have been very popular at past EVO events the fan base and community for the games has faded in recent years, especially in Japan, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 was one of the main titles that most gamers claim helped bring them into the Fighting Game Community as well as increase the popularity of EVO.

The game made its final appearance this year during EVO 2017 in Mandalay Bay Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, the retirement of the game was not only due to the waning fan base and community but also due to the most recent installment of the game, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite due to be released. However, the newer installment will not be making an appearance at EVO 2018 in Japan, with the retirement of two of the event’s classic games and one of the newer versions not making an appearance Nintendo was able to seize the opportunity and put ARMS as one of the replacements for the games. The game is very fun and the controls and combos make it perfect for competitive players, the game even had an invitational tournament during this year’s E3 with the winner being able to play against one of the game’s developers.

The game’s appearance in the event would greatly increase it’s popularity as well as provide more feedback to Nintendo about how competitive players react to a unique fighting game such as this one on the Nintendo Switch. If the game’s overall appearance and spot in the tournament goes well, Nintendo may release future sequels and similar games in the future. The 2018 EVO in Japan is set to take place at the end of January and will feature one of Nintendo’s most popular games ARMS as well as many other fighting games sure to attract gamers from around the world. Spectators and fans will be waiting in anticipation to see who wins. Happy gaming!
